This article focuses on co-management involving a hospitalist. As more hospitalists care for patients, the concept of co-management has developed as a way to formalize the hospitalist's role in patient care. Co-management can have many benefits when it is well planned and executed. When disorganized, poorly designed, inconsistently utilized and/or misunderstood, co-management can expose patients to injury and members of the healthcare team to lawsuits.
