# NORCAL Mutual Introduces New Medical Professional Liability Insurance Policy in Illinois with Comprehensive Cyber Liability Coverage

NORCAL Mutual Insurance Company, one of the top medical professional liability insurance providers in the nation, recognizes that the potential for a data breach is a stark reality for medical practices today. This is why NORCAL Mutual’s newest Illinois policy, which launched this month, includes comprehensive protection for certain data breaches and cyber liability. 34.7 percent of data breaches in the United States in 2015 have been medical and healthcare industry related, according to the latest report published by the Identity Theft Resource Center. More than 19,000 of these exposed records were from Illinois. Health information continues to be one of the highest targeted categories for data breaches. 

“Physicians are facing new challenges as the digital environment becomes increasingly complex. The need for contemporary coverages to address these challenges and protect their practice is essential,” Ron Rumin, senior vice president and chief business development officer for NORCAL Mutual said. “The right coverage, combined with NORCAL Mutual’s industry leading patient safety education and vigorous claims defense, ensures that our policyholders are well protected.”

NORCAL Mutual’s Information and Network Security coverage includes payment of certain defense costs and damages resulting from a data breach, data recovery, cyber extortion, and cyber terrorism, and provides credit monitoring for those whose information has been compromised.
