# Timothy Smith Joins NORCAL Mutual as New Head of Claims

![Smith_Timothy-23_rv_cropped_news.jpg](https://www.norcal-group.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Website/News/Smith_Timothy-23_rv_cropped_news.jpg?width=75&name=Smith_Timothy-23_rv_cropped_news.jpg "Smith_Timothy-23_rv_cropped_news.jpg")Timothy Smith has been named the new Senior Vice President of Claims for NORCAL Mutual Insurance Company, one of the top medical professional liability insurance (MPLI) companies in the country.Smith will oversee the national claims operations for NORCAL Mutual and its subsidiaries PMSLIC Insurance Company, Medicus Insurance Company and FD Insurance Company, upholding the standard of strong defense in the best interest of policyholders. 

Smith comes to NORCAL from the Constellation Companies, which includes Midwest Mutual Insurance Company, Utah Mutual Insurance Association and Arkansas Mutual Insurance Company, where he was the Chief Claim Officer. Smith is a 30-year veteran of professional liability, also serving in leadership positions at COPIC Insurance Company, The Reciprocal Group, Kemper Insurance Companies and CNA Insurance Company. He was also a practicing attorney in California and Illinois, specializing in medical malpractice, products, employment practice liability and general liability.

He has a Juris Doctor degree from McGeorge School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from DePaul University.
