Privacy Policy

NORCAL Insurance Company and its affiliates (referred to herein as “NORCAL Group,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) created this statement to demonstrate our firm commitment to protecting your privacy and recognizing your need for appropriate protection and management of the personally identifiable information you share with us on our website and other mobile applications (collectively our “Online Services”) (the phrases “personally identifiable information” or “personal information” mean any information by which you can be identified, such as your name, address, telephone number, etc.). NORCAL Group intends to give you as much control as possible over your personal information.

The Online Services are owned and operated by NORCAL Group. The purpose of our privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) is to inform you about the types of personally identifiable information we gather about you when you visit or use our Online Services, how we may use that information, whether we disclose it to anyone, and the choices you have regarding our use of, and your ability to, correct the information. This Privacy Policy applies only to users accessing our Online Services from the United States. Please read our complete Privacy Policy. By using the Online Services, you agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, which is part of and governed by NORCAL Group’s Terms of Use. Whenever you submit information via Online Services, you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of that information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of our Privacy Policy or the Terms of Use, please do not use the Online Services.

Information Collection

As you use the Online Services, certain information can be passively collected using various technologies, such as navigational data collection. The Online Services may use Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. An IP address is a number automatically assigned to your computer by your Internet service provider. We may collect IP addresses for the purposes of system administration and to audit the use of the Online Services. Each time you use the Online Services and each time you request one of our pages, our server logs your IP address. Although we log your session with us, we will not normally link your IP address to anything that can enable us to identify you.

The Online Services may use “cookies.” A “cookie” is a small file stored by your Web browser to help a particular system recognize you and the pages you visit in a website or mobile application. Cookies allow the Online Services to recognize you more quickly. We use cookies to help us measure the number of visits, average time spent, page views, and other statistics relating to the Online Services. The information we gather through the use of cookies is not sold to vendors, advertisers, direct mail concerns, email list services, etc.

We support the Do Not Track browser setting that allows you to choose – and tell the websites you visit – what kind of personal information you want to be collected. We will honor the Do Not Track preferences you set in your browser.

Our Online Services may contain links to other websites. We have no control over the privacy practices or the content of, or any information collected by any of our business partners, advertisers, sponsors or other sites to which we provide links from our Online Services.

NORCAL Group does not endorse, approve or certify these other websites, and we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, efficacy, or timeliness of the information contained on these sites. This Privacy Policy applies to information collected by our Online Services, and you should check the applicable privacy policy of the website sponsor when linking to other websites and whether they follow your Do Not Track preferences.

Information You Submit

The personally identifiable information we collect when you communicate with us via email and online forms will depend upon your inquiry and the type of insurance you request. Such information may include your name, address, social security number, date of birth, income level or wage information, medical information, health history or credit history, and further, in the case of online billing, banking information and credit card number, if provided. Some of the information that you submit may be personally identifiable information. We typically use this information we collect to respond to inquiries, provide quotes when requested, underwrite and administer policies, and ensure proper billing and service accounts.

We also may obtain nonpublic personal information about you from information we receive from you on applications and other forms; information about your transactions with us, our affiliates or others; and information we receive from your insurance agent or producer and consumer reporting agencies.

Sharing of Information

NORCAL Group may provide certain aggregate information we collect from visitors to the Online Services (e.g., statistics, sales, traffic patterns and services) to third parties who can assist NORCAL Group in analyzing and understanding the information and help us to better provide online products and services. Should NORCAL Group share this aggregate information with third parties, it will not include any personally identifiable information.

NORCAL Group does not sell your personally identifiable information to third parties. When you provide personally identifiable information to us, we may share it and any transaction information such as premium payments or claims history with our affiliated companies and third-party contractors who are subject to confidentiality agreements solely for the purpose of evaluating and fulfilling your requests for insurance coverage, processing transactions requested by you, carrying out our obligations as your insurer or administering, and offering our products and services. Please bear in mind that anyone you provide with your log-in information will also have access to your account and personally identifiable information.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, however, NORCAL Group reserves the right at all times to disclose any information as NORCAL Group determines, in its sole discretion, to be necessary to satisfy any law, regulation or governmental request or to avoid liability for NORCAL Group or any third party.

Security of Information

NORCAL Group will take reasonable steps to protect your personally identifiable information that you transmit to NORCAL Group and through the Online Services and to protect such information from loss, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. However, no Internet transmission is ever fully secure, and NORCAL Group cannot guarantee that information transmitted via the Online Services will remain confidential at all times. When collecting credit card information for online payments, we offer secured-server transactions that encrypt your information in transit to thwart someone from intercepting it and misusing it. When we collect other information from our users, it is stored in an area to which the general public does not have access. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to ensure that personal information is stored and treated responsibly.

Children’s Privacy (Under the Age of 13)

NORCAL Group takes children’s privacy seriously and wants children and parents to understand that our Online Services are not intended for children under the age of 13. If you are under the age of 13, please do not use the Online Services. We do not seek to collect personal information about children through our Online Services. If we become aware that a person submitting personal information to us through any part of our Online Services is a child under the age of 13, we delete the information as soon as we discover it and do not use it for any purpose, nor do we disclose it to third parties. Since we do not seek to collect any personal information about children, and we delete information collected inadvertently as soon as we discover that a child has submitted it, we typically retain no information about children that could be reviewed or deleted. If a parent requests review or deletion of information about their child before we have discovered and deleted the information, we will of course honor that request. Please contact the Legal Department at 844.4NORCAL.
