Due to the severe impact and debilitating effects of Hurricane Harvey, NORCAL Mutual Insurance Company is providing premium payment relief to policyholders in the 58 Texas counties declared as disaster areas.

NORCAL will extend premium payment due dates for those impacted by Hurricane Harvey until Oct. 30, to ensure policyholders are able to work through the aftermath of the storm without any disruption of coverage.  Additionally, no cancellations will be issued during this grace period to those affected by the storm.

NORCAL Mutual Insurance Company will begin offering medical professional liability insurance in Nebraska, beginning September 1. This is the latest in NORCAL’s national expansion, which now reaches 38 states, including the District of Columbia.

NORCAL is one of the top providers of insurance for physicians and surgeons in the country and offers tailored coverage options that protect today’s medical practices, including protection against emerging risks like cyber liability and data breaches.

Due to severe flooding, Cook, Kane, Lake, and McHenry counties in Illinois have been declared as disaster areas by Governor Bruce Rauner. As a courtesy to our policyholders in these affected areas as they work through the aftermath of the storms, NORCAL Mutual  will not issue any non-renewals until this measure has  lifted on September 30, 2017.

Additionally no Notices of Cancellation will be issued until September 30, 2017.  Any Notices of Cancellations that were generated on or after July 12, 2017, prior to NORCAL being notified, have been lifted.

NORCAL Mutual Insurance Company will offer medical professional liability insurance to Connecticut physicians, beginning July 1, 2017. This is the latest market entry for NORCAL, which provides coverage to 36 states as well as the District of Columbia. NORCAL provides protection for medical professionals against risks associated with practicing medicine in today’s environment, including robust cyber liability and practice administrative defense insurance

“We are excited to be able to offer medical professionals in Connecticut a new option for insurance with a financially strong company with national resources and local expertise,” Ron Rumin, senior vice president of business development for NORCAL said. “NORCAL has served neighboring Rhode Island for more than 20 years and we are looking forward to our expansion into Connecticut.”

On June 20, 2017, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that the duty to obtain informed consent is held by the physician. The ruling states:
